Steps:

1. Tap the Versamark ink pad directly onto the two cover pieces of straw card stock and the small piece of copy paper.

2. With a small paintbrush, apply gold metallic Perfect Pearls mica powder on the three pieces of paper in diagonal stripes. Do the same thing with the copper powder until all surfaces are filled (figure A).

3. Create a watermark effect on the three clay colored card stock pieces by stamping them randomly with the tulip stamp and a Versamark ink pad (figure B).

4. Using your black ink pad, stamp the butterfly on the small piece of straw card stock. To give it color, stipple clay ink into the middle of the butterfly. Do this by pouncing the stipple brush into the dye ink pad then onto the cardstock. Also stamp the typing paper with the butterfly in black ink (figure C).

5. Take the stamped butterfly piece and tear the right side of the card stock. Layer it on a slightly larger piece of coal card stock and tear the edge of that as well.

6. Score the clay piece of card stock that will be used for the spine with a ruler and stylus at the following measurements: 1", 1/2", 1/2", 1", 1/2", 1/2", 1".

7. Fold on the scored lines and wrap around the spine/coils of the notebook, gluing down both sides (figure D).

8. Glue the front covers onto the notebook as well with the paste glue (figure E).

9. Using a small hand punch, punch holes 2-1/2" x 1/2" from the top and bottom outer corners of the book, in two directions (figure F).

10. Cut apart two ponytail holders (figure G), placing each end into a small brad that has a dab of glue inside of it, and place the brads through the punched holes, opening them on the back to hold in place.

11. Glue the inside covers on at this point to cover the backs of the brads, and give it a nice finished appearance (figure H).

12. To decorate the front of the book, cut a piece of black screen and a length of black satin ribbon. Place the screen on the book, and place a thick layer of glue on the ribbon and place over the screen to secure. Glue a piece of trim over the ribbon (figure I).

13. Glue the butterfly image onto the cover as well, and cut two sequins from the trim to decorate the butterfly (figure J).

14. Remove the end cap off of your pen, wrap the stamped copy paper around the barrel of a small paintbrush and slip the paper inside the pen (figure K). Replace the end cap (figure L).

15. When the glue is dry on the notebook, slip the ponytail holders over the corners of the notebook, and slip the stamped pen inside the ponytail holders (figure M). Now you will always have a pen with your notebook, and the edges of your notebook will not get tattered. Use this same design for large notebooks or handmade scrapbooks, as well.
