Architect Arlene Tunney doubled the living space of her ranch-style home while giving the house a more formal and dramatic identity in the colonial style.

She started by raising the roof and repitching the roof line to reflect the classic high-pitched colonial style. The windows have been pared down and the shutters removed to give the front a flat, unadorned look that's reminiscent of early saltbox homes. The symmetrical arrangement of the windows is also typical of colonial homes.

The entire house has been refaced in narrow clapboard wood siding and is punctuated by strong but simple white molding. Salvaged bricks were used to create a central chimney.
