Classic Appeal

Simple projects include replacing the chalet-style windows and their trim, adding new windows and repainting the front of the house a warm, light-gray color. This repainting includes painting out the weathered brick of the front face and the trim along the house and around the garage door.

Rick continues the complete overhaul by refacing the porch landing in large slabs of gray and tan cut slate with matching arrow grout lines. She also replaces the single spindley porch post with a pair of elegant square columns that will frame the front door.

The chalet-style door is replaced with an arts-and-crafts-style door, while the porchlight and mailbox are replaced with bronze arts-and-crafts-style fixtures. The landscaping is also redone with ferns and white rhododendrons. As a final touch, the front lightpost is built up so that it matches the box columns on the front porch.
