Flowers are always a popular gift for Mother's Day. For a new twist on the old favorite, make a bouquet of paper flowers with coffee filters, food coloring and pipe cleaners.

Materials:

coffee filters
food coloring
pipe cleaners
decorative bowl

Steps:


  1. Dye the coffee filters with delicate pastel colors by soaking them in a bowl of water with a little food coloring added.

  • When the filters are dry, place two or three different colors atop one another and pinch them together in the middle (figure A).

  • Twist them to form a flower and wrap a pipe cleaner around the tightly twisted base of each "bloom" (figure B). The pipe cleaners act as the stems of the flowers.

  • Arrange several in a decorative bowl and surprise mom with her unique floral bouquet.
