10. Cut a 19-1/2" x 6." section of cotton batting.

11. Fold the cotton batting three times lengthwise until the batting measures 19-1/2" x 1". Pin in place (figure I).

12. Baste the cotton batting to the hardware cloth to wrap the base and make it comfortable to wear.

13. Machine-sew the ribbon for the bottom of the crown together along the length with right sides together (figure J). Machine-sew the ends together, making sure that the length will fit your crown snugly.

14. Pin the ribbon onto the crown base (figure K). Hand-stitch the top, working around the areas where the wire meets the base (figure L).

15. Attach a decorative button on each side of the open back of the twilight crown. Form a hook with round nose pliers and 3 inches of 18-gauge wire (figure M).

16. Attach the hook at the base of one button and open link chain to the base of the other button.

Tips

  • Locate or draw a Celtic lace pattern for the twilight crown.
  • Use beads with holes large enough to allow 18-gauge wire to pass through.
  • Use additional beads with smaller holes to allow 24-gauge wire to pass through.
