Nursery Rhyme Bed Linens

Create fun and colorful hand-painted bed linens based on the favorite nursery rhymes.

Materials:

a set of 100-percent cotton sheets and pillowcases for a child’s bed in white, blue, yellow or cream, red, navy blue, etc.
white or colored chalk
fabric paints in a variety of colors
various size artist’s brushes and fabric markers
Hey Diddle, Diddle nursery rhyme or favorite prose

Steps:


  1. Pre-wash, dry and iron bed linens before beginning.

  2. Spread out linens on flat, clean work surface.

  • Use chalk to create design based on nursery rhyme (figure A). Make design large and bold.

  • Use chalk to add the rhyme around border of sheets and pillowcases figure B).

  • Fill in design with markers and paint (figure C). Use a narrow, densely bristled brush to paint the rhyme.

  • Coordinate the pillowcase design with the sheets. If desired, use pre-made stamps to add repeating designs (figure D).

  • Let dry well. Iron with hot iron (steam-free setting) to set colors.

    Optional: Add decorative trims to the top and edges of sheets and pillowcases.
