MAD Magazine illustrator Sergio Argonas shows host Carol Duvall and guest how to make a simple cartoon drawing. Sergio asserts that the addition of a cartoon on a simple note can bring a smile to the recipient's face. He also claims that one need not be a prize-winning artist to be able to sketch a cartoon, and to prove his point, Sergio offers the following steps for depicting a simple character:
- Make a circle for the face. Draw two circles inside the larger circle for the eyes, and place a dot on each eye for the eyeball (figure A).
- Draw in a half-circle for the mouth.
- Draw a thick line above the eyes for the eyebrows. Vary the shape of the line to produce different expressions.
- To portray the body, attach a larger circle to the circle representing the head (figure B).
- Draw a short line out from the top of the larger circle. Put a dot at the end for the elbow. Draw another line at the dot, but at an angle from the first line. Repeat for other arm and for legs.
