Figure A--Children have been growing up with playhouses for years. They are places where they can create their own world with no grown-up rules--a place to engage their imagination and perhaps find out what kind of adults they want to become. This is why Debby Stewart became so intent on finding the perfect playhouse for her daughter. She looked for a house that would complement the yard and be a permanent part of her daughter's childhood. When she couldn't find one, she drew up the plans and had it built.
Figure B--The result of Stewart's passion is Rose Cottage. This playhouse is masterfully decorated and was even done on budget. By being careful when selecting the wallpaper, beadboard and even the mantel (found at a flea market), she was able to decorate it inexpensively, yet tastefully.
Figure C--These houses are typically very solid in structure. One built by Vintage Dreams even survived a tornado. Although built to scale for little ones, the builders also include dimensions to accommodate parents (when they are invited). A house with a second story typically has a six-foot clearance. The windows are custom-ordered because they are, after all, the eyes to the world. Landscape design and color also play distinct roles in the beauty and warmth of the playhouse. For Stewart, Rose Cottage has been worth every penny.
