So, what is the truth about knitting? Is it important to gauge? Are you holding the needles correctly? Take this true-or-false quiz to find out.
True or False?
Tension can ruin your knitting and/or crocheting.
True! If you're feeling tense, it can transfer to your work causing stitches to come out very small and tight. Avoid knitting or crocheting when tense.
There's only one way to hold a knitting needle.
False! There is no wrong way to hold knitting needles or a crochet hook.
It's important to gauge your stitches before starting a project.
True! Always crochet or knit a large swatch when starting a new project. Project instructions will give you a stitch per inch measurement. These can vary somewhat with needle/hook size and yarn size, warping the project if the stitch per inch ratio is off.
When purchasing yarn, the color name of the yarn means the colors will match.
False! Though the skeins are branded with the same color name, yarn colors can vary from dye-batch to dye-batch. Check for identical dye lot numbers on the back of the wrappers to make sure you're getting an absolute match.
When making a project from instructions, it's important to use the same weight or type yarn as the designer used.
True! You don't have to use the same brand, but you do need to use the same weight. The weight of the yarn is important because it will gauge the same as the one the designer used. Be sure to check the gauge before starting the project.
