Marketing Crafts

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-121 -- More Projects »
Craft designer Christina Romo Carlisle dispenses the following advice for submitting and selling craft instructions to magazine editors:
  • Obtain a crafter's guide prior to mailing anything, so that you produce and send exactly what the magazine stipulates. Some magazines request a picture of the craft with brief instructions, while others may solicit the craft, itself.
  • Do your homework. Determine what is of interest to the magazine's editors, and don't send your work to a publication that has a different focus.
  • Concentrate on designs that are not too involved.
  • If you are a novice crafter, approach general rather than specialized craft magazines.
  • Be aware of deadlines. For example, a Christmas issue is not put together during the preceding October and November; issues are planned several months and sometimes even a year or more in advance.
