Glass With Class

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-103 -- More Projects »
Carol explains that although true etched glass is done by sandblasting, several craft products on the market provide a similar look through other means. She displays several glass- etching products, from rub-on decorative transfers to chemicals that actually eat away at the glass. Carol demonstrates how they are used and offers several craft ideas that require these products.

When using the chemical etching product, Carol recommends wearing gloves and keeping the product away from children.

She also offers several tips:

  1. Use a gold paint pen to embellish your etched pieces and to mask any imperfections in your etching.
  2. To make an inexpensive stencil, cover your piece with masking tape, and use a craft knife to cut designs out of the tape.
  3. Don't bother buying a special tool to apply the rub-on transfers. The corner of a credit card or the tip of a wooden tongue depressor work just as well.
