This high-rise apartment in Chicago had a lot going for it. A large apartment on the 32nd floor of a lakefront building, it has spectacular views. But not from the kitchen, which is blocked off and outdated, having gone without modernization since the building was built in the 1960s. So, the goal is not only to modernize and upgrade but also, and most important, to bring in the spectacular views of Lake Michigan and Chicago's shoreline, as well as the light from the dining-rooms windows.

After

After three and a half months of construction, the new kitchen is an eye-popping improvement over the dark and outdated space it was. The wall separating the kitchen from the dining room has been removed, allowing the dining room's views and sunlight to flood into the kitchen. Finally, the kitchen, which for years was an unremarkable space, will become an attractive and fun place to spend time. The upgrades don't hurt either! New appliances, soapstone counters and terrific stainless-steel backsplashes helped make this a beautiful, modern kitchen.
