Materials:

plastic plate holders in various colors (open on the bottom)
plastic plates in various colors (these are solid and are smaller than the holders)
hot glue gun
paper hole punch
loose-leaf ringlets
2 x 4 for frame
bright-colored acrylic paint

Steps:

  1. Begin with the plates and your decor. Experiment with different color combinations until satisfied. For instance, try matching up an orange holder with a red plate or a light green holder with a light blue plate.
  2. Turn both the holder and plate over, and place the smaller plate behind the larger holder. Now turn back around and look at it to choose the color combination. This project featured a blue and green combination against a purple frame.
  3. Plan the design by laying out the plates to see how big of a frame is needed.
  4. Once happy with the number of plates to be used, hot-glue them and the holders together.
  5. When the two pieces are together, use a hole punch to make four directional holes in the outer edge of the plate holders (north, east, south and west).
  6. Attach all of the plate holders together using loose-leaf rings.
  7. Measured how big to make the frame. The example is made of two purple panels.
  8. Now lay the plates down flat inside the frames and measure and mark where the eye screws will go. Attach screws.
  9. If desired, use two or three door hinges to attach the two wood frames together.
  10. Then with the project flat, attach all of the outer plates with loose-leaf ringlets to the eye screws in the frame. Stand upright to enjoy.
