Developer and builder Randy Banks is so proud of his designs that he’s decided to put them on pedestals. In the mountains of North Carolina he’s creating two-story lodges that sit on concrete piers so they literally float above the forests. Only a footbridge connects the homes to solid ground. Banks is also using construction techniques that minimize the environmental impact while maximizing the views.
New homeowners Angie and Bill Marshall love the pedestal style, saying it lets them take in the natural splendor all around. Their new home invites nature inside with rustic elegance, rich color and natural wood. They say they enjoy having their living spaces and master bedroom on the main floor with guest rooms downstairs. They also can’t wait to show off their decks and outdoor fireplace. In this feature, Banks and his build team will discuss how they create the pedestal foundation and build on top of it. We’ll also visit with the Marshall’s and learn more about their attraction to the home design and how it’s working for them.
