Steps:

1. Remove the frame of the pet door (figure A).

2. Get a rough measurement of the opening (figure B).

3. Mark the measurements on the 2x6 and use a carpenter's square to draw a nice, straight line to cut by (figure C). Cut the board using a handheld circular saw (figure D).

4. Go ahead and drill pocket holes in the boards to make it easier to attach them to the siding later (figure E).

5. Work the side boards into place first. Use a hammer to knock them gently into place, then insert screws into your pre-drilled pocket holes and tighten.

6. Insert the bottom plate and tighten screws (figure F).

7. Hold frame in place and drill pilot holes through the wall and into the new studs. Secure the frame with screws (figure G).

8. Enlist the aid of a qualified cat for a comprehensive test of the new door (figure H).
