You can repair both large and small cracks in your asphalt driveway.
Materials:
Stiff-bristle brush
Masonry trowel
Putty knife
Garden hose
Asphalt patch kit, which includes coal tar pitch, sand, clay and water
Asphalt caulk
- Use a stiff brush to remove any loose material from the crack.
- Clean the surface with a garden hose.
- For large cracks, apply an asphalt patch made of a mixture of coal tar pitch, sand, clay and water. Use a trowel to apply the patch. For small cracks, use a putty knife to apply asphalt caulk.
- Pour sand over the patch to reduce its stickiness. Then drive over the patch with your car to press the material into the asphalt. The patch should cure within 24 hours
Tip: Don't apply an asphalt patch when the temperature outside is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
