* Inquire at paint store when purchasing primer.
Steps:
- Base coat the surface with primer. Let dry overnight.
- Brush on two coats of AquaPearl #HC-108. Let dry two to four hours between coats.
- Using a straight edge and the colored pencil, draw a series of irregular four- to five-sided shapes to simulate the slate. Leave a 1/4" space between the shapes to simulate the grout lines.
- Mask off alternating shapes to allow several stones to be painted at one time.
- Pour a few ounces of each of the AquaPearl colors onto the plate. With a slightly dampened sponge, lightly dip the sponge into each of the three colors. Apply the paint in a parallel motion, sometimes padding the surface with the sponge, sometimes dragging the paint across the surface.
- Without rinsing out the sponge, continue to pick up each color from the plate, adjusting the amount of each color from light to dark for variety.
- Let each shape dry overnight before pulling off the making tape. Remove the tape the to expose the base coat "grout lines".
- To further protect the finish, add the low-luster acrylic finish. For tabletops, apply two coats. For floors, apply up to four coats, allowing the finish to dry two to four hours between coats.
