Anaglypta

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-136 -- More Projects »
Carol demonstrates the many uses for anaglypta, which is a Greek word meaning "raised ornament." When speaking about wallpaper, it refers to a type that is embossed. Here, Carol demonstrates how to paint anaglypta, which is normally white embossing on a white background.

Carol recommends putting paint on a sponge and then lightly moving the sponge across the embossed wallpaper to produce color on the raised design. A two-tone effect can be achieved simply by painting it twice.

Painted anaglypta may be used to decorate cabinets, serving trays, and other items, such as the lamp shade Carol demonstrates here. To create a lining, just match the edge of the paper with the edge of the lamp shade, and roll the shade to the other edge. Use a pencil to mark the path along the top and bottom of the shade. Cut out the shape, leaving a slight extension at the top and bottom to allow the paper to be folded over the shade.
