Wall Treatments

Matt Fox shares a variety of ways to paint textured wallpaper:

• Wash the paint directly on the paper using a damp paper towel or a rag. This will bring out the texture slightly.
• Dry-brush paint on in one direction, and then the opposite to really highlight the raised areas.
• Brush or roll on a solid color of paint to completely cover the paper with paint .
• Roll on the paint and wipe some off immediately for a highlighting technique.

Painting the Ceiling and Upper Walls

Materials:

textured relief wallpaper
satin latex paint (Mint Tint #SW1452)
rags

Steps :

1. Roll the paint on and wait a few moments.

2. Wipe over the design to take off the paint on the top of the relief, leaving color in the valleys. This makes the design stand out more than just painting over it in a solid color.

Materials:

satin and semi-gloss latex paint (Hi-Tech Black #1021)
pencil
1-1/2" sash paintbrush
quilt batting
scissors
electric staple gun
black rope trim
hot glue gun/glue

Steps:

1. Paint the walls black satin and let dry. Repeat for full coverage.

2. To draw the ribbon design, pencil in fun curves and swirls with a fluid motion . Go back and make some areas wider than others so the design is strong enough to show up in the room. Paint the design with black semi-gloss.

3. Cut pieces of quilt batting to fit the panel size. Staple the batting in place , making sure not to go right along the edge (reserve that area for stapling the fabric).

4. Staple the fabric on by turning the edges over and attaching it as close to the wood trim as possible.

5. Glue trim around the inside edge of each panel to hide the staples.
