Designer Betsy Rick wants to turn this home into a classic shingle-style house. She creates a more steeply pitched and rambling roof line by raising the two front gables, then raises a small gable over the front entry.
Small multipaned windows are punched out of all these front gables. A small, hexagonal turret adds more variety and interest. The entire home is shingled over, with window trim and doors painted a sharply contrasting white.
Rick builds a new pathway from the front door to the front sidewalk, announced by a graceful and simple arbor in white. A hexagonal wooden bench is built around the massive trunk of the spreading oak that shades the front yard.
