Before
Tom and Nancy Hayes have a problem - they have too many walls. The kitchen, dining room and living room in their 1970s ranch-style home are large usable spaces, but the walls make the house feel "closed in." So it's up to their design team, Nancy Hernandez and Pam Polvere, to open up the space and bring the kitchen into the 21st century.

Nancy and Pam take advantage of the trussed ceiling and remove all of the walls between the rooms. All of the old kitchen appliances, cabinets and flooring are removed to make way for modern maple cabinets, oak floors and a colorful mosaic tile backsplash. Granite countertops ensure durability for years to come. The dazzling centerpiece of the room: a salt-water aquarium island.
